KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- A total of RM2.24 million has been allocated for the purpose of transforming the Wangsa Sari People's Housing Project (PPR) in Wangsa Maju, here, through maintenance and facility enhancement works.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said today that the work focuses on the safety, comfort, and quality of life for 1,061 residents, including the construction of a new bridge across the Sungai Bonus reserve worth RM200,000 for safer access for the local community.

According to the statement, the matter was conveyed during a visit by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, along with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud, to the PPR today to review the implementation of the DBKL Public Housing Maintenance Programme and proposals for improving community facilities in the area.

"Of the total allocation of RM2.24 million, RM1.10 million is allocated for building painting work, RM904,000 for the replacement of Sub-Main Cables and Main Switch Boards, RM136,000 for road paving work, and RM101,000 for the enhancement of the fire safety system.

"The entire allocation will be used to improve the physical condition of the building, strengthen safety aspects, and ensure that basic facilities and the residential environment are at a better level for the residents' use," according to the statement.

DBKL is also carrying out the construction of an 18-metre-long bridge with a two-metre-wide path across the Sungai Bonus reserve to Wangsa Sari PPR at an estimated cost of RM200,000.

The statement said the project, which will be carried out from October to December 2026, is expected to provide a safer and easier route for residents, especially for access to Padang Wangsa Sari, as well as to help reduce safety risks on Jalan 2/27A.

In addition, the facility is expected to encourage the use of recreational areas as well as leisure activities and social interactions among the local community.

"The implementation of these projects demonstrates DBKL's commitment to ensuring that public housing not only provides a place to live but is also equipped with a safe, comfortable environment that supports community well-being.

"DBKL will continue to intensify efforts in the maintenance and improvement of public housing through the implementation of projects that have a direct impact on the lives of city residents, in line with the aspiration to make Kuala Lumpur a city for all," said the statement.

The Wangsa Sari PPR, built in 2008, is a 21-story block comprising 272 residential units, with 173 designated for sale and 99 units for rent.
