KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Participating riders in the GoGiggers Financial Literacy Programme recorded a 34.4 per cent improvement in financial well-being, with 74 per cent starting emergency savings during its initial implementation in Peninsular Malaysia.
Bank Negara Malaysia deputy governor Adnan Zaylani said participants also accumulated more than RM68,000 in savings and RM40,000 in investments over the course of the programme.
“Following this success, the programme was expanded to Sabah and Sarawak, where participants likewise reported improvements in financial resilience and savings behaviour.
“This demonstrates what can be achieved when we understand the circumstances of a particular group and the design of support mechanisms that help participants translate knowledge into practical action,” he said at the Launch of Financial Literacy Month 2026 in conjunction with the National Financial Literacy Symposium 2026.
The GoGiggers Financial Literacy Programme was delivered through the collaborative efforts of Financial Education Network (FEN) members and partners including The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK), Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN).
Recognising that gig workers may have irregular incomes and different financial motivations, the programme was designed around the profile, circumstances and behavioural needs of its participants, Adnan said.
It combines practical financial guidance with sustained support that participants could apply within their own circumstances.
Meanwhile, he said Financial Literacy Month 2026 with the theme “Money Smart When It Matters Most” is an opportunity to help Malaysians take practical and achievable steps towards stronger financial well-being.
“Financial preparedness is not about making perfect decisions. It is about being better prepared to respond to life’s opportunities and challenges, according to one’s circumstances and aspirations,” he said.
The roadshow began on Sept 21 in Perak and will conclude on Oct 21 in Johor with parallel programmes conducted from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and from Kuching to Samarahan in Sarawak.
Today’s stop at Sasana Kijang marks the official launch and flag-off before the roadshow continues nationwide.
