SABAK BERNAM, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Religious school teachers under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) have been urged to strengthen dakwah efforts not only in schools but also within communities across the state.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said about 8,000 registered religious teachers in primary and secondary schools in the state play an important role in the development of Muslims, with some also holding credentials to teach in mosques and conduct academic programmes.

"Therefore, the involvement of JAIS school teachers in dakwah activities is very clear, and they can perhaps be reminded of several changes, such as AI (artificial intelligence) technology.

"Perhaps matters like this will assist their dakwah efforts not only in schools but also among the wider community," he told reporters after officiating the Selangor State Islamic Education Teachers' Premier Ijtimak Programme 2026 at Dewan Seri Bernam, Sungai Besar, here today.

Also present were Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) president Datuk Hasan Bahrom and JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.

Amirudin said religious teachers must continue to play a role in providing the community with a clear understanding of various aspects of life and Islamic teachings, including muamalat (Islamic transactions), zakat and property distribution.

"These matters can be disseminated by understanding the latest contemporary dakwah methods, and perhaps shared using available technology," he said.

He said the state government also welcomed cooperation from Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) to intensify dakwah programmes in all districts in Selangor to ensure the approach reached all levels of society.

"It does not necessarily need to involve specific special modules, but rather how we can streamline it across various levels. That is important to create a well-organised and civilised community living in a society comprising various races and religions," he said.

Amirudin added that the true method and path of dakwah was through engaging with the community, without forgetting its function and responsibility towards all Muslims.
