BATU PAHAT, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- French cyclist Ronan Auge has been placed in a medically induced coma to stabilise his condition following a crash during Stage Six of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026, but the rider is "in good hands" and currently doing well, said Unibet Rose Rockets sports director Joram Grootveld.
He said the 22-year-old was rushed to hospital immediately after the crash during the early stages of the Pandan Indah-Rembau route yesterday, with the team doctor remaining by his side to monitor his condition around the clock.
“There was a big crash at the beginning of the stage yesterday and it was such a big crash that we needed to get him to hospital very quickly. Our team doctor was with him yesterday and is also with him today.
“They placed him in a medically induced coma to ensure his condition stays stable. At the moment, everything looks quite okay. So, right now we have to take it step by step and see how his recovery progresses.
“But he's in good hands right now. Our team doctor is with him and we hope that he has a good recovery,” he told reporters after the conclusion of Stage Seven (Melaka to Batu Pahat) here today.
Grootveld earlier confirmed that Auge sustained several bone fractures as a result of the crash.
“He sustained several fractures. But, yeah, right now we just have to take it step by- tep and see how his recovery progresses," he said.
Earlier, the team released a medical update on their official social media account, confirming that Auge sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash, but his condition remains stable and not life-threatening.
The team added that they remain in close contact with the medical team treating him in Malaysia.
The 30th edition of LTdL concludes tomorrow with the final Stage Eight covering 188.3 kilometres (km) from Muar to Putrajaya.
