SEPANG, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- Police have safely disposed of three mortar bombs discovered in a Roll-On/Roll-Off (RORO) skip at Kampung Dato Ahmad Razali, Dengkil, near here, yesterday.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said a scrap metal collector found the mortar shells while sorting items from a RORO skip outside a house.
He said police received a report about the discovery around 3 pm and immediately dispatched a team to cordon off and secure the area.
"The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) was deployed to the scene to conduct checks and take necessary action.
Checks confirmed the objects to be three mortar bombs, comprising one 81-millimetre (mm) shell and two 60mm shells," he said in a statement today.
He said the UPB retrieved all three devices and took them to a safe location for disposal.
He added that the UPB detonated the mortar bombs around 9.20 am today at an open construction site in Dengkil.
"The disposal operation was completed safely and under control at 9.25 am, with no untoward incidents reported," he said.
Norhizam advised members of the public not to touch, move, or approach any object suspected of being an explosive device, and to contact the police immediately if they make such a discovery.
