NAGOYA, Oct 3 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Japan defeated Indonesia 2-1 in the sepak takraw men's quadrant final Saturday at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, winning the country's first-ever gold medal in the sport, Kyodo News reported.

The gold medal in the four-man event was Japan's 73rd of the games, adding to its biggest medal haul since hosting the 1994 edition in Hiroshima.

“This gold medal is a result that everyone involved in Japanese sepak takraw has been hoping for.

“I am truly delighted that we were able to achieve it at the Asian Games held right here in Japan,” Japan coach Takeshi Terashima said.

In sailing, the duo of Misaki Tsunomori and Riho Sanematsu claimed victory in the youth mixed dinghy event.

In archery, Junya Nakanishi took silver in the men's individual recurve, securing a quota spot for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The 16-day Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, featuring 43 sports, conclude on Sunday.

Japan is hosting the summer Asian Games for the third time.
