TUMPAT, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- A total of RM200,000 has been allocated for maintenance work at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Berangan here, in an effort to strengthen educational facilities and ensure the comfort of the school community.
Ministry of Education (MOE) secretary-general Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim said that in addition to the maintenance allocation, the school also received 10 laptops, worth RM26,000, donated by Palo Alto Networks Malaysia and a smartboard, worth RM10,000, from the Tun Hussein Onn Teacher Foundation.
He said the contributions also included 16 Samsung tablets, worth RM1,200 each, from the Yayasan Didik Negara for outstanding students in Kampung Bunut Sarang Burong, as well as reading materials and books from the Institut Terjemahan Buku Malaysia, Majlis Buku Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.
"Consider these contributions not just as assistance, but as catalysts to open more educational opportunities and improve the quality of life for our children and the local community," he said while speaking at the closing ceremony of the Santuni MADANI programme under the ‘One Leader, One Village’ initiative at SMK Berangan, here today.
Wan Hashim said that the MOE is committed to ensuring there is no educational gap between children in rural and urban areas, especially in terms of access to quality education.
According to him, education does not only take place in the classroom, but is instead a shared responsibility involving schools, families, communities, government agencies and strategic partners.
Meanwhile, he said the Santuni MADANI programme provides an opportunity for leaders to engage with the community, listen to their views, and understand more closely the real needs of the community.
Wan Hashim hopes that the involved schools continue to excel and at the same time become community centres that are close to the hearts of the people.
