KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his appreciation to outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing for his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties during his tenure.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said Ouyang's commitment included continuous efforts to enhance cooperation between the governments, business sectors and people of both countries.

He conveyed his appreciation in a Facebook post today after receiving a farewell courtesy call from Ouyang at his office in Putrajaya.

"Throughout his tenure in Malaysia, we have certainly shared many experiences, achievements and memories.

"Thank you, His Excellency Ouyang, for your service and friendship. I pray for his continued success in his future endeavours and hope the close Malaysia-China relationship will continue to grow for the benefit of both nations and their people," he said.

Ahmad Zahid said during the meeting, both sides also exchanged views on the growing Malaysia-China ties and potential areas of cooperation to explore in the future.

"For Malaysia, this long-established relationship must continue to be strengthened based on mutual respect and mutual benefit," he added.

Ouyang, the 16th Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, ends his tenure after serving for nearly five years and 10 months.
