KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has held firm as Malaysia's top private university, ranking 242nd globally out of 2,297 institutions in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027.

The result keeps UTP securely within the world's Top 250 universities, demonstrating its progress in integrating education, applied research and global engagement.

According to UTP president Mohamed Firouz Asnan, Industry remained the university's highest-scoring pillar, climbing to 95.8 from 94.5 in the previous edition, while its International Outlook score reached 77.6.

Commenting on the achievement, Mohamed Firouz said that while rankings serve as a useful external benchmark, the university's primary focus remains on educational relevance and real-world impact.

“Built by industry for the industry, this is the purpose that continues to guide UTP. What matters to us is whether our education remains relevant, whether our research addresses real needs and whether our partnerships create value beyond the University,” he said.

He added that the institution will continue to prioritise its research quality, international research collaborations and citation impact.

“Our priority is to further strengthen the quality, visibility and influence of our research. As we continue our transformation journey, our focus remains on turning knowledge into practical solutions and equipping our graduates to thrive as professionals and leaders,” he said.
