KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Miss Universe Malaysia (MUM) 2026 pageant is taking a different approach this year with the unveiling of its latest official crown, named ‘Star of the East’, highlighting Malaysia’s identity and artistic heritage on the international stage.
The crown, featuring intricate craftsmanship and exclusive gemstones, was unveiled by MUM 2026 president and national director Ayu Omar at the Preliminary Miss Universe Malaysia 2026 event here last night.
Ayu said the crown’s design combines the elegance of Malay artistry with the beauty of Eastern culture, complemented by a modern touch, symbolising a new era for the prestigious pageant under her company, Ratu Prestigious Event Management (RPEM).
“This silver masterpiece (crown) has been meticulously crafted, with the sharp-edged details specifically inspired by Sarawak’s traditional art motifs. At its peak is a radiant star symbolising unity, aspirations and hope for Malaysia to continue shining in the eyes of the world.
“The crown’s luxurious appeal is further enhanced with fuchsia pink gemstones, symbolising courage, femininity and the spirit of Malaysian women today,” she told Bernama after the event.
Ayu said the exclusive crown was specially designed by organising committee member Abbas Ais before being crafted by renowned Thai crown maker Maq of Junghuu Crown.
Although declining to disclose the actual value of the crown, Ayu assured that the materials and gemstones used were of the highest grade, specially selected for the eventual winner.
Meanwhile, she expressed her appreciation for Tourism Malaysia’s full support in making this year’s pageant a success.
“This collaboration not only places Miss Universe Malaysia within a new era of legacy, but also serves as a strong platform to promote the country’s culture and tourism sector to the world,” she said.
The MUM 2026 grand finale will see stiff competition among 13 local finalists vying for the country’s most prestigious beauty pageant title this Friday.
The winner crowned that night will not only have the opportunity to wear the latest heritage-inspired crown, but will also represent Malaysia internationally at the Miss Universe 2026 pageant, scheduled to be held in Puerto Rico next November.
