PHNOM PENH, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is stepping up efforts to attract more Cambodian government officials to its technical training and scholarship programmes, as the two countries strengthen cooperation in human resource development.
The Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh organised a briefing on the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) to raise awareness of its training, scholarship, and professional development opportunities among Cambodian officials, the embassy said in a press statement on Tuesday.
“The MTCP plays an important role in bringing Malaysia and Cambodia closer together by strengthening cooperation, fostering professional networks, and building lasting connections among government officials of both countries.
“The strong participation from Cambodian ministries and government agencies reflected the continued interest in the opportunities offered under the MTCP,” said Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn at the event held on Sept 25 in Phnom Penh.
Cambodia is among the programme’s long-standing partners with about 1,822 Cambodian government officials having participated in various MTCP programmes to date.
Established in 1980, the MTCP has benefited more than 40,000 participants from 144 countries through short-term training programmes and long-term academic opportunities.
“The programme reflected Malaysia’s longstanding commitment to South-South Cooperation through sharing its development experience, expertise, and human resource capabilities,” said Shaharuddin.
Malaysian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Muhammad Nur Anuar Nordin briefed about 50 participants on the MTCP framework and objectives, training opportunities, scholarship programmes, and the application and selection processes.
Beyond capacity building, the MTCP continues to serve as an important platform for strengthening Malaysia-Cambodia bilateral relations and people-to-people ties.
