KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated the country’s top women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah for winning the bronze medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Anwar, via a post on his Facebook page, said the success also ended Malaysia's 12-year wait to win a medal in the women's doubles event at the games.
"Kudos for the fighting spirit shown. May this achievement serve as a catalyst for Pearly, Thinaah, and other athletes to continue bringing glory to Malaysia on the international stage," he said.
Earlier, the world number five pair had to settle for the bronze medal after putting up a fierce fight before bowing out to top seeds Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in the semi-finals.
In an 85-minute battle at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, Pearly and Thinaah put on an energetic performance before losing 21-16, 20-22, 12-21 to the world number one pair.
