JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Bhd (KPJ Healthcare) today launched PROM-Connect, a digital platform to support the systematic collection and management of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) across its hospital network.

KPJ Healthcare said in a statement today that the initiative forms part of the group’s Value-Based Care transformation under the KPJ Health System, Malaysia’s first private Academic Health System.

“PROMs capture patients’ own assessments of their treatment outcomes, functional status and quality of life throughout their care journey, complementing existing clinical and operational measures.

“PROM-Connect brings patient engagement, questionnaire distribution, reminders, response tracking and outcome monitoring into a single digital platform,” the statement said.

Johor Specialist Hospital (JSH) has been selected as the pilot site, while the PROM programme is currently being implemented across 14 KPJ hospitals.

The group is targeting implementation readiness across 19 hospitals by the end of 2026, before progressively onboarding hospitals with established PROM programmes, governance and workflows onto the platform.

Further expansion is planned from 2027, based on the readiness of each hospital.

KPJ Healthcare officer-in-charge Professor Datuk Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid said clinical outcomes remained fundamental in assessing care but did not always fully reflect how patients experienced their recovery.

“PROMs help fill that gap. For KPJ, the value of PROM-Connect is not in the technology alone. It allows us to bring the patient’s perspective into how we assess care and identify areas for improvement.

“The real measure is whether these insights lead us to make better decisions about care and, ultimately, better outcomes for our patients,” he said.

Following the pilot at JSH, the group will focus on stabilising the system, refining workflows and gathering user feedback before progressively introducing PROM-Connect to other hospitals.

KPJ Healthcare said the technology was intended to complement clinical and operational processes supporting PROM implementation, with hospital ownership, clinician engagement, multidisciplinary collaboration and patient participation remaining essential to its success.

PROM-Connect also supports the wider KPJ Health System model, where clinical care, education and research reinforce one another to continuously improve care.
