MELAKA, Sept 29 (Bernama) – An assistant medical officer was killed while four others, including three children, were injured in an accident involving a motorcycle and a car on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Batu Berendam here, this morning.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief ACP Halim Abas said during the 6.50am incident, the 32-year-old male victim was confirmed dead at the scene after suffering severe injuries to his head and body.
"Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle ridden by the victim was traveling from the direction of Sutera Wangi towards Peringgit, while the car driven by a 35-year-old woman was traveling from Peringgit before turning into the junction to Taman Ikhsan, Batu Berendam.
"As the car was entering the junction, the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction failed to avoid it and brake in time, crashing into the left side of the car," he said in a statement today.
Halim said that at the time of the incident, the driver of the car, who is a housewife, was believed to be on her way to send her children to school.
He said that apart from the driver, three boys aged nine and 10 who were passengers in the car also suffered head lacerations, while one of them also sustained an ear injury.
"All four of them were sent to the Melaka Hospital to receive treatment and are in the Green Zone," he said.
Halim added that the victim's body was sent to the Melaka Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
