KANGAR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The 2026 Kuala Perlis International Water Festival recorded over 55,000 visitors in its two days, bringing positive economic spillover effects to the local economy.

Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the eateries, homestays, hotels and guesthouses were among those that benefitted from the festival.

“This is a very good achievement, and I see that many business premises, eateries, homestays and hotels are all fully occupied,” he told reporters after the close of the festival here today.

Abu Bakar said 19 villages took part in various competitions organised during the festival, including the village beautification activities, demonstrating the local community’s spirit in making the programme a success.

“Regardless of whether we win or lose, the spirit of coming together in Kuala Perlis will continue to be strengthened through the events that were contested,” he said.

He said the water festival would continue next year with several improvements, with greater emphasis to be placed on the village beautification competition after the activity was seen as capable of fostering community unity and attracting visitors from outside the area.
