TAMPIN, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- An elderly man died in a fire at a single-storey terrace house in Taman Indah here early this morning.
Tampin District Police Chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the 63-year-old victim was found in a room at the back of the house following the fire at about 6.15 am.
“The house was occupied by a family of three, but the wife, 56, and their 27-year-old daughter managed to escape the fire, which destroyed 30 per cent of the rear section of the house,” he said in a statement today.
Amiruddien said preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, with no foul play detected.
He added that the victim’s body had been taken to the Tampin Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem, while further investigations were ongoing.
