KUALA KRAI, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Efforts to locate an elderly man, who has been reported missing since Sept 9 in Kampung Kuala Pertang here, are continuing, with more than 10 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working hand in hand with villagers.
Kampung Kuala Pertang Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP) chairman Adnan Mat Yassin said efforts to locate Fauzi Deris, 74, had never stopped since his family informed them of his disappearance.
“After we were informed of his disappearance by his family, many residents and NGOs came forward to help, with some even conducting searches in shifts in the morning, afternoon and at night.
“The NGOs that came informed me that they wanted to take part in the search. I would like to express my gratitude to them for willingly contributing their time, energy and so on to help find Fauzi,” he told Bernama at Kampung Kuala Pertang here today.
Adnan said that apart from search efforts on the ground, the villagers also performed special prayers at the mosque every day after Maghrib prayers, asking that the task of locating Fauzi be facilitated and that he would be found immediately.
Meanwhile, the victim’s adopted son, Syafiq Izwan Abdullah, 33, expressed his appreciation to the villagers, NGOs and authorities who have tirelessly assisted his family.
“I never expected so many NGOs, including those from outside Kuala Krai, to come and help search for my father from the first day he went missing. The spirit they have shown in helping my family has been extraordinary.
“Our family accepts whatever has happened, but the villagers and I have never given up hope, and we hope he will be found safe,” he added.
A Bernama check today found that villagers were still actively searching for the missing elderly man, with areas around oil palm plantations among the locations being searched.
Previously, Kuala Krai police chief Supt Mazlan Mamat urged those with information on Fauzi’s whereabouts to contact the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters Operations Room at 09-745 0999 or the Kuala Krai District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 09-9666 222.
