PETALING JAYA, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is enhancing benefits under the Employment Insurance System (SIP), enabling contributors to receive up to RM25,000 in total support and protection per person from Oct 1.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the improvements include raising the Early Re-employment Allowance (EBSA) rate from 25 per cent to 50 per cent of the remaining Job Search Allowance.
He said the improvements also include a one-off Mobility Assistance Allowance (EBN) of RM1,000 for contributors who secure new employment more than 100 kilometres from their residence, as well as raising the daily training allowance from RM10 to RM30.
“The maximum training fee has been raised from RM4,000 to RM7,000 to better support contributors in enhancing their skills in line with current labour market demands.
“We want PERKESO’s services to stay aligned with the needs of contributors through job matching, career advisory services and retraining,” he told a press conference after launching the Festival Mega iLINDUNGu: KESUMA Bersama Rakyat programme at Strand Mall, Kota Damansara, here today.
Meanwhile, Ramanan said the festival marked a further step in expanding social security coverage for gig workers, with platform providers contributing RM1.514 million to provide coverage for 500 e-hailing drivers and p-hailing delivery riders.
He said the total contribution comprised RM1 million from Foodpanda, RM500,000 from Grab and RM14,412.40 from Halo.
He said the contribution was in line with the policy requiring platform providers to contribute towards social protection for gig workers.
“Behind every rider and driver are families who depend on their income. This social protection serves as a crucial safety net in the event of unforeseen circumstances,” he said.
Regarding the Lindung 24 Jam scheme, he said 87 per cent of workers had registered for the scheme, while urging the public not to be swayed by misinformation on social media.
At the event, Ramanan also presented RM48,000 under the LINDUNG Kasih Suri Rumah Scheme to cover social security contributions for 400 housewives in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency.
PERKESO Board chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and PERKESO Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed were also present.
The three-day Festival Mega iLINDUNGu: KESUMA Bersama Rakyat programme, which began on Sept 18, offered 2,000 job opportunities with salaries of up to RM12,000 through the MYFutureJobs Career Carnival, involving 25 employers, and brought together 11 agencies under the Ministry of Human Resources.
