KUCHING, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Sarawak as a co-host for the 2027 SEA Games will provide interpreters and liaison officers to assist foreign contingents that may not understand Malay or English.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the services were important to ensure every contingent received assistance and guidance throughout their participation in the Games.
“Of course, we need to provide interpreters because there are several Southeast Asian countries that may not understand Malay or English.
“The liaison officers who will manage and look after each contingent will also be there to assist and guide them,” he said after officiating the One Year Countdown to the 2027 SEA Games Sarawak Cluster ceremony here tonight.
Abdul Karim said the Sarawak Sports Complex would not only serve as one of the main sporting venues but would also feature festival elements including Malaysian Kitchen and sales of products and merchandise.
He said the approach was aimed at creating a livelier atmosphere throughout the SEA Games while providing entrepreneurs with an opportunity to showcase and sell their products.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said construction of the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) next to the Baitulmakmur building was progressing smoothly and was understood to be ahead of schedule.
“We are quite focused on this so that data and information can be channelled easily to the countries involved as they also want to see what is happening by the minute and by the hour,” he said.
The 34th SEA Games will be held from Sept 18 to 29 next year.
