KOTA KINABALU, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The runway at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) reopened at 11.30 pm tonight after final safety checks, Malaysia Airports said.
In an update on its official Facebook page, Malaysia Airports said flight operations could resume following the reopening.
Malaysia Airports also advised passengers travelling to and from KKIA to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status and updates.
The runway had been temporarily closed since 2.45 pm today to facilitate rectification works, affecting at least 20 flights involving arrivals and departures.
Checks by Bernama at the airport earlier found several flights delayed or cancelled, while several arriving services were diverted to Labuan and Sandakan.
The disruption left some passengers waiting for several hours for updates, with many repeatedly checking flight information displays and airline notifications for revised departure and arrival times.
