KUCHING, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- As thousands prepare to converge on the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight for the Malaysia Day 2026 celebration, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and telecommunications service providers (telcos) are working behind the scenes to keep the guests connected.
With more than 5,000 guests and personnel expected, dedicated network management has been activated to deliver fast and seamless internet connectivity throughout the event.
Digital logistics preparations at BCCK began last Sunday, involving the deployment of temporary assets and additional access points.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said these reinforcements could accommodate the high usage generated by the large turnout.
"We want to ensure that all guests who come to BCCK tonight for the Malaysia Day celebration can also enjoy very smooth internet speeds," she told reporters after visiting the MCMC Network Monitoring Centre at BCCK here today.
Also present was MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
Meanwhile, Teo praised the telco companies for their proactive cooperation in boosting broadband connectivity capacity beyond the original targets set.
Citing Telekom Malaysia (TM) as an example, she said the company took the initiative to raise network capacity speeds to two gigabits per second (Gbps).
"We only asked for 800 Mbps, but they went ahead and upgraded it to two Gbps themselves. So when we walk into the hall, it will be no problem for the roughly 5,000 attendees and all the personnel," she said.
