BUKIT NERTAJAM, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The Bukit Mertajam Kelab Wanita Muda and Bukit Mertajam Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre, led by its MP, Steven Sim Chee Keong, have brought clearer sight and brighter smiles to 100 senior citizens, school students and children in special education through a free spectacles programme.

The spectacles were generously sponsored by GF Eyewear and disbursed at the Free Spectacles presentation ceremony at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Office Hall here.

Officiating the event on behalf of Sim, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, was Seberang Perai City Council councillor and special officer to the Bukit Mertajam MP, T. Yoganraj Thever.

Yoganraj said the initiative reflected the unwavering commitment of elected representatives and their strategic partners in safeguarding the well-being of the local community.

He said the programme did more than just benefit the recipients, but also strengthened the bond of cooperation between the private sector, community organisations and elected representatives in building a more caring and prosperous community.

Meanwhile, GF Eyewear general manager Ng Yi Cheah said the company was happy to play a part in the project, stressing that clear vision is essential for learning and a better quality of life.

Echoing that spirit of giving, Bukit Mertajam Kelab Wanita Muda chairman Siti Nor Nasuha Mohd Rodzuan pledged that the club will continue to roll out welfare programmes to lend a helping hand to those in need.
