KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 100,904, or 97.53 per cent, of armed forces officers and personnel have declared their assets as part of efforts to strengthen governance and integrity within the MAF, said Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman.
He said that, apart from declaring their assets, 105,536, or 98.7 per cent, of active MAF personnel nationwide had also taken the Corruption-Free Pledge.
Malek Razak said the implementation of an integrity module involving 4,240 MAF members at 26 training centres had further strengthened their understanding of good governance and anti-corruption practices.
“I had previously declared my assets, but upon assuming the post of Chief of Defence Force, I declared them again. The same requirement applies to all service chiefs and senior officers.
“For high-risk, critical positions, such as those involving procurement and financial management, the MAF carries out job rotation every 18 months to minimise vulnerabilities that could lead to financial leakage,” he said during a special interview held here in conjunction with the 93rd MAF Day.
Malek Razak further said that the MAF was also strengthening its risk management measures through the MAF Anti-Corruption Action Plan 2026-2030, the development of an Integrity and Anti-Corruption Plan, and the implementation of Corruption Risk Management (CRM).
He said the MAF conducts Standard Management Audits and surprise audits as part of its check-and-balance measures to ensure transparency in the management of assets, finance, security and human resources.
“This is crucial, as every audit finding must be addressed immediately through corrective action and improvements,” he said.
In addition, Malek Razak said governance compliance would be closely monitored by the Ministry of Defence’s Integrity Unit and the Inspector-General’s Department at MAF Headquarters.
He stressed that adherence to governance standards was crucial to maintaining public trust in the MAF’s credibility, in line with the value of Tatakelola Tuntas, a core principle of the security force.
He said the measure was also taken to restore the force’s image following past integrity issues, reflecting its maturity as it marks its 93rd year serving as the nation’s defence force.
Meanwhile, this year’s MAF Day celebrations, themed “Ketahanan ATM, Benteng Pertahanan Negara”, will feature the MAF Day Carnival 2026, to be held on Sept 19 and 20.
The carnival, to be held at the Royal Malaysian Navy base in Lumut, Perak, will offer the public a chance to get a closer look at the MAF’s assets and witness demonstrations.
