IPOH, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Changkat Larah in Kamunting, which housed flood evacuees in the Larut, Matang and Selama district, was closed today after all the evacuees were allowed to return home.
Larut, Matang and Selama District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat said the decision to close the PPS at 2 pm was made after floodwaters at all the affected evacuees’ homes had fully receded.
“The cooperation of all departments and agencies involved in the operation of this PPS is greatly appreciated,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, a total of 76 people from 24 families were housed at the PPS following floods that hit several areas in the district.
The evacuees comprised residents of Taman Larah Damai, Kampung Changkat, Taman Lela and Taman Kamunting Mutiara.
Yesterday, the Larut Matang and Selama Civil Defence Force (APM) District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) reported that several areas in the district were inundated or cut off following rising river levels caused by continuous rain since evening.
