KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) has called on BRICS to translate its stance on Palestine as stated in the New Delhi Declaration 2026 into concrete diplomatic, humanitarian, economic and legal action.
MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, in welcoming the declaration, said while it represents an important diplomatic development, measures capable of producing real consequences for violations of international law must be taken.
“BRICS today possesses substantial economic, diplomatic and geopolitical weight across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Its members include major economic powers and influential states in the Global South.
“That collective weight must now be deployed,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
MAPIM said BRICS has reaffirmed support for Palestinian rights, humanitarian access to Gaza, the role and mandate of UNRWA, and the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations.
It also reaffirmed support for Palestinian statehood and the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
Azmi called for an unequivocal rejection of forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as sustained, unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“Most importantly, the call for Palestinian membership of the United Nations must move from diplomatic rhetoric towards a coordinated BRICS strategy to secure Palestine’s full membership in the UN,” he said.
MAPIM proposed the establishment of a BRICS Palestine Action Mechanism to coordinate efforts on an immediate and permanent ceasefire, prevent forced displacement, guarantee humanitarian access, strengthen UNRWA and accelerate Palestine’s full UN membership.
The mechanism should also support international accountability processes over alleged violations of international humanitarian and criminal law, while mobilising a BRICS-led reconstruction framework for Gaza that is Palestinian-led and adequately funded, it said.
MAPIM called on the Malaysian government to actively engage BRICS members and leverage Malaysia’s diplomatic standing to advance a concrete BRICS Global South Action Agenda for Palestine.
It also called on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Arab League, BRICS and other Global South institutions to coordinate their diplomatic efforts rather than pursue fragmented initiatives.
