MELAKA, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government has allocated RM300,000 for 3,000 p-hailing riders in appreciation of their contribution to driving the economy and facilitating the people’s daily affairs.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said each rider would receive RM100, with the allocation involving 3,000 p-hailing riders attending the opening ceremony of the Melaka Youth Carnival 2026 tonight.
“Under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat initiative, every voice, welfare and future of p-hailing riders will always be given attention by the government,” he said at the opening ceremony at the Melaka International Trade Centre here tonight.
He said the assistance was only part of the state government’s broader commitment to Melaka’s youth, including the p-hailing community.
He said the state government had also provided eight rest centres, or rider pit stops, at strategic locations for p-hailing riders to take a comfortable and safe break, while motorcycle maintenance subsidies and discounts would be available to them from Oct 1 to ease their financial burden.
“The state government will also look into Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions to strengthen the safety and welfare of p-hailing riders in the long term,” he said.
According to him, youth agenda had remained among the state government’s priorities over the past three years, with more than 100 initiatives implemented specifically for the development of Melaka’s youth.
