KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Department of Environment (JAS WPKL) has detected at least three attempted scams using fake government order documents that misused the name, logo, and identities of several department officers.
JAS WPKL Director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said that the matter was uncovered after the department received a complaint from a diving equipment supplier registered as a vendor or contractor in the government procurement system on August 3.
She noted that the company received a suspicious government order document featuring the JAS logo on the cover, with a total order value of RM26,000.
"These fake government order documents were found to have misused the names of several JAS Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur officers," she said in a statement today.
Sharifah Zakiah stated that further checks revealed inquiries regarding government orders for organising a programme using scuba equipment began arriving on August 12, 2026, pointing to fake government orders involving another company with a total value exceeding RM100,000.
She added that the document was also found to be misleading as it showed a total amount of around RM135,000 for the same service using the same document number.
Consequently, she said JAS WPKL has informed the JAS Headquarters Finance Section and lodged a police report on September 4, 2026, regarding these scam cases.
"JAS WPKL views the complaints received from the public and the affected companies seriously, as the use of fake names, logos, and documents resembling official government documents has the potential to tarnish the image, credibility, and reputation of the Department of Environment and the civil service.
"JAS WPKL appreciates the vigilance of the public and companies in checking and verifying the authenticity of questionable government order documents.
"Such action is crucial in helping to prevent the misuse of the Department's name and identity, as well as protecting the interests of suppliers and the Government against any form of fraud or impersonation," she said.
