KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- National swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean splashed his way to two gold medals for UCSI University on the opening day of the swimming competition at the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Sports Games (SUKIPT) today.
The 24-year-old delivered the first gold medal by clocking 2 minutes 05.92 seconds (s) in the men’s 200 metres (m) backstroke event at the Universiti Malaya Swimming Pool here.
Monash University’s Joel Ling Thai Yu (2:16.28s) took silver and Muhammad Arif Zulfikry (2:19.65s) settled for bronze.
Hoe Yean doubled his gold medal collection when he helped the UCSI University quartet clock 8:16.64s to win the 4x200m freestyle relay event.
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) took silver in 8:39.91s and Taylor’s College the bronze in 8:41.90s.
“This tournament is a really good preparation for the (Sept 19-Oct 4) Asian Games because we are leaving for the Asiad on the Sept 17.
“It’s also a very good preparation for the (Dec 10-19) ASEAN University Games (AUG) because this competition serves as a selection for the AUG as well,” he said when met after his success at the pool.
Meanwhile, Hoe Yean hopes he will be able to continue his excellent momentum by delivering more medals for UCSI University in the days to come.
