MELAKA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government plans to require every government department and agency in the state to submit at least one Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB) project for competition from next year to further strengthen public service delivery.
Melaka State Secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh said the proposal was aimed at ensuring public service reform remained a culture of continuous improvement within every organisation, rather than merely a project or slogan.
“For next year, we propose that every department and agency have one RKB project to be entered in the competition at a convention, like the one we are holding today,” she told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the 2026 Melaka RKB Convention here today.
She said strong commitment from all parties was essential to support the state’s rapid economic growth, which recorded 3.0 per cent growth in 2025, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RM50.3 billion and approved investments amounting to RM14.68 billion.
According to her, the use of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in RKB projects was crucial to reducing bureaucracy and waiting times, as well as speeding up approval processes for the benefit of the public and business community.

She hoped at least 10 of the 20 AI-based RKB projects being contested at this year’s convention would receive national-level recognition from the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) or Public Service Department (JPA).
“Last year, we received four KSN recognitions. My hope this year is that at least half of the 20 projects being contested receive recognition from either the KSN or JPA,” she said.
The convention, jointly organised with MPC, featured 20 AI-based RKB projects from 14 departments and agencies. The Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and MPAG were among the main award recipients.
Also present was Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) deputy director-general Dr Mazrina Mohamed Ibramsah.
