KUALA NERUS, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Terengganu has set a target of 38 medals, including nine gold medals, for the 2026 Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, from Sept 5 to 10.

State Youth Development, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the 104-strong contingent - comprising athletes, coaches, managers and escorts - will compete in 10 sports around Petaling Jaya and Klang.

“Our target for this Para SUKMA is nine gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze. Our para athletes have trained in the past six months in centres identified by the Terengganu Sports Counicl and were selected to represent the state,” he said here today, adding that sports with gold medal potential included boccia, powerlifting, athletics and swimming, while archery, lawn bowling, badminton and tenpin bowling are sports with silver and bronze potential.

He also said that medal winners will received similar incentives as 2026 SUKMA winners, RM3,500 for a gold, RM2,500 for a silver, and RM1,500 for a bronze, and expressed hop that the contingent would provide strong competition to bring home as many medals as they could to bring glory for the state.

"The incentive is not just monetary rewards, but a token of appreciation from the state government to the efforts, discipline and fighting spirit of athletes, coaches and other parties,” he added.
