LABUAN, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- The RM38 million Labuan Waterfront Development Project Phase One, initially approved for implementation along Victoria Harbour Beach at the former wet market site in downtown Labuan, will comprise two projects.
It will also be expanded onto the Nagalang coastline.
Department of Federal Territories Director-General Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain said the Nagalang component will focus on eco-tourism and recreational development.
It will complement the waterfront project in the town centre.
He said the proposed division into two locations has been submitted to the Economy Ministry. It is now at the final decision-making stage.
“The scope and objectives at the original Victoria Harbour remain unchanged. There will be no (land) reclamation as this would require a substantially higher allocation,” Muhammad Azmi said
For background, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the RM38 million allocation when Budget 2026 was tabled in October last year.
The development was originally planned along Victoria Harbour Beach, on the site of the former wet market in the heart of this duty-free island.
Under the latest arrangement submitted for consideration, it was later split into two components, with one to remain at Victoria Harbour and a second component to be developed along the Nagalang coastline.
