KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Penang, Johor and Selangor accounted for 79.4 per cent of Malaysia’s total trade in July 2026, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).
In the Export-Import Statistics by State July 2026 report released today, DoSM said Malaysia’s total trade in July 2026 amounted to RM364.7 billion, with exports and imports valued at RM193.6 billion and RM171.1 billion, respectively.
“Penang remained the leading exporting state, accounting for 48.4 per cent of Malaysia’s total exports, followed by Johor (19.1 per cent), Selangor (14.7 per cent), Sarawak (5.2 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (2.9 per cent).
“Penang also recorded the largest share of Malaysia’s imports at 30 per cent, followed by Selangor (23.4 per cent), Johor (22.9 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (9.6 per cent) and Kedah (3.9 per cent),” it said.
DoSM said Malaysia’s exports in July 2026 increased by RM53.5 billion, or 38.2 per cent, compared with July 2025, attributed to higher exports in Penang (+RM40.4 billion), Johor (+RM10.1 billion) and Selangor (+RM3.7 billion).
This was followed by Sarawak (+RM1.6 billion), Perak (+RM511.9 million), Kedah (+RM511.0 million), Kuala Lumpur (+RM507.0 million), Kelantan (+RM153.7 million) and Negeri Sembilan (+RM35.0 million), it said.
DoSM said the states that recorded declines in exports were Perlis (-RM31.1 million), Melaka (-RM156.9 million), Terengganu (-RM208.8 million), Labuan (-RM405.1 million), Pahang (-RM1.0 billion) and Sabah (-RM1.9 billion).
Meanwhile, it said Malaysia’s imports in July 2026 increased by RM45.7 billion, or 36.4 per cent, compared with July 2025.
“The increase was mainly attributed to higher imports in Penang (+RM21.8 billion), Selangor (+RM7.8 billion), Kuala Lumpur (+RM7.3 billion) and Johor (+RM7.3 billion), followed by Kedah (+RM1.5 billion), Sarawak (+RM810.2 million), Pahang (+RM789.5 million), Negeri Sembilan (+RM594.3 million), Sabah (+RM268.5 million), Perak (+RM180.3 million) and Labuan (+RM145.6 million),” it said.
However, imports fell in Terengganu (-RM4.0 million), Kelantan (-RM24.7 million), Perlis (-RM43.9 million) and Melaka (-RM1.3 billion), the department said.
