GEORGE TOWN, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today began a two-day working visit to Penang packed with various engagements, including meetings with students, the Muslim community and local residents.
The visit began with Friday prayers at Masjid Sembilang, Butterworth, at 1.30 pm, followed by a “Temu Anwar Bersama Pelajar” session in conjunction with the Ambang Merdeka Sahabat MADANI Programme at the Tuanku Bainun Teacher Education Institute campus in Bukit Mertajam at 4 pm.
The event, which will also be attended by Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, provides students with an opportunity to interact directly with the country’s top leader.
The Prime Minister will wrap up the first day’s agenda by attending a Maulid Akbar event in conjunction with Independence Day at Masjid Jamek Tengah Berapit, Bukit Mertajam, at 9 pm.
Tomorrow, Anwar is scheduled to officiate the Permatang Pauh Skim Usahawan Bangkit programme at Dewan Yayasan Aman Penanti, Kubang Semang, at 10 am.
He will then attend the National-Level Tadabbur Perdana Programme and the Permatang Pauh Maidah Wanita MADANI Programme at Masjid Muhajirin, Seberang Jaya, at 11.30 am.
In the afternoon, the Finance Minister will officiate the 15th Malaysian Scout Jamboree at the Penang State Stadium in Batu Kawan, which will bring together more than 5,450 local and international scouts from 11 countries, including South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
This year’s jamboree marks a historic occasion as the national event returns to Penang after 60 years, since the state first hosted it in Teluk Bahang in 1966.
Anwar is then scheduled to attend the 2026 Ambang Merdeka Sahabat MADANI Programme finale at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Permatang Pauh at 4 pm, bringing his visit to Penang to a close.
