SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Melaka mixed doubles duo Aaron Tai-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan successfully defended their Malaysia Games (SUKMA) mixed doubles gold medal for the second consecutive time at the Selangor 2026 Games here, today.
Playing at Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam, Aaron-Noraqilah survived a three-set battle to beat Kelantan’s Kang Khai Xing-Chan Wen Tse 21-18, 21-23, 21-8 in the final.
The 19-year-old Aaron said the victory was particularly meaningful as it marked his final SUKMA appearance.
“I am happy to be able to win this medal for Melaka, our state,” he told reporters after the match.
Noraqilah, meanwhile, was equally delighted with the achievement, saying they did not put too much pressure on themselves during the final.
Commenting on the performance, the 19-year-old was pleased with their overall display but attributed their second-set difficulties to the strong wind, which disrupted their rhythm.
In the meantime, Penang’s Tan Zhi Yang-Nicole Tan Pei En won bronze after defeating teammates Nixon Ang Jia Shen-Tan Zhing Hui 21-11, 21-10.
In the men’s doubles, Federal Territories claimed a one-two finish as Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Low Han Chen saw off Damien Ling Tang Le-Ethan Oh Joon Hui 21-16, 21-12.
Toh Ee Hern-Wee Yee Tern of Johor took bronze after beating Sarawak’s Darrent Lim Lian Zhan-Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim 21-17, 17-21, 21-18.
Perak’s Chong Jie Yu-Vannee Gobi emerged as the women’s doubles champions as they brushed aside the challenge from Federal Territories’ Leong Hwee Ling-Teh Xin Ying 21-15, 20-22, 21-8.
Bronze went to former world junior runners-up Dania Sofea Zaidi-Low Zi Yu of Johor after they got past home pair Sheyeon Wong E-Shwen-Tan Xin Yu 21-14, 21-14.
