PADANG BESAR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Perlis state government plans to explore collaboration opportunities with Brunei and Bangkok to strengthen border tourism and attract investment, particularly in the development of five-star hotels in the state.
Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the plan was among the state government's efforts to identify new opportunities to boost Perlis' economy.
“The development of these high-end accommodation facilities is crucial to support the state government's target of attracting tourists to the state, which is expected to increase in the future.
“We are indeed targeting and currently seeking investors to develop a five-star hotel. In addition to Kuala Perlis and Kangar, the Padang Besar area also has the potential to be developed as a high-end hotel destination,” he told reporters after visiting a motorsport circuit site here today.
Regarding the motorsport circuit, Abu Bakar said its development near the border area also had the potential to become a sports tourism attraction for tourists from Thailand and other countries.
On June 12, the Perlis state government said it planned to build a motorsport circuit at the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) here, involving an area of about 13.35 hectares.
Abu Bakar was quoted as saying that the construction involved a collaboration between Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Perlis and a private company in the state to strengthen the sports sector and stimulate economic activity.
