KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The remains of three family members who died in a crash involving a Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) lorry at Jalan Sultan Ismail early this morning were brought back to Kampar, Perak tonight for burial arrangements.

Earlier, the three bodies were bathed and shrouded, and funeral prayers were performed over them at the Jamiul Ehsan Mosque on Jalan Pahang here at 8.20 pm.

A Bernama check at the mosque compound found that the victims' close relatives from around the Klang Valley had been gathering since this afternoon to pay their last respects.

All the remains were subsequently seen being placed in three hearses and are expected to be laid to rest at the Kampung Air Hitam Labu Muslim Cemetery in Kampar.

In the incident at about 1 am today, a family of four, believed to have been holidaying in the capital, were struck by a JIM 'Black Maria' lorry while crossing the road.

The deceased were identified as Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, and his two daughters, Siti Nor Sazlin, 25, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12. His wife, Norhayati Razali, 55, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the unladen JIM lorry, en route to Chow Kit for an operation against undocumented migrants, entered the intersection while the traffic light was red, with its beacon lights and siren activated.

The official vehicle then collided with a Proton Saga travelling straight through a green light, causing the lorry to lose control, skid and crash into the family and an Inokom Matrix.
