KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The investigation paper on the fatal crash early this morning involving a Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) truck, which claimed the lives of three members of a family and injured another, will be referred to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the decision was made following discussions with the Kuala Lumpur Prosecution Director (PPN).

"The investigation paper will be referred to the Head of the General Crime and Public Order Division, Attorney General's Chambers, and will be brought by the prosecution director and investigating officer for any charges to be considered," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Zamzuri said police had obtained a one-day remand order for the lorry driver and the driver of the Proton Saga involved in the crash, with the case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Media reports said three pedestrians from the same family were killed while another was seriously injured after being hit by a Kuala Lumpur JIM "Black Maria" truck on Jalan Sultan Ismail at about 1 am today.

The crash is believed to have occurred when the empty truck, which was heading towards Chow Kit for an operation against illegal immigrants, entered the junction while the traffic light was red, with its beacon and siren activated.

The official vehicle subsequently collided with a Proton Saga travelling straight through the junction when the traffic light was green, causing the truck to lose control, veer off the road and hit all the victims as well as an Inokom Matrix.

The deceased were identified as Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, and his two daughters, Siti Nor Sazlin, 25, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12, while his wife, Norhayati Razali, 55, is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
