MOSCOW, Aug 19 (Bernama-dpa) -- A wild bear in Russia's Altai Mountains dragged a 29-year-old camper from her tent into the forest and mauled her to death, German Press Agency (dpa) reported on Wednesday, citing Russian news agency TASS.

The attack happened at a campsite in the village of Artybash in southern Russia.

Her boyfriend, who was on an outdoor holiday with her, told Russian media that he and other people had tried to distract the predator but nothing helped.

The woman was from Novosibirsk.

Authorities now plan to introduce a curfew there, according to TASS reports. The region has many bears and they are increasingly approaching people.

Russia's civil defence warned tourists of the ever-present danger.

Russia, the world's largest country by area, has many brown bears and polar bears. People are attacked time and again, although fatalities are comparatively rare.

In mid-July, a bear killed a 62-year-old man in the Magadan region in Russia's far east, according to Russian media.
