KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) remain committed and serious about fulfilling their roles and responsibilities in the Federal Government until the end of the current parliamentary term, says UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He stressed that BN’s commitment and determination to make something a success were not matters that could be given or withdrawn arbitrarily or at whim.

“Moreover, BN’s agreement and commitment to jointly ensure the success of the formation of the Federal Government were made with the awareness that it was necessary to provide political stability in the country,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohamed Khaled, who is also Defence Minister, said that although BN had contested against Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the previous series of state elections, BN did not use the results in Sabah, Johor and Negeri Sembilan as a reason to withdraw its commitment.

“Differences in administration at the state level do not prevent good cooperation at the Federal level. This is a unique structure and reality of our country,” he said.

He said BN viewed the 16th General Election (GE16) as a turning point or decision that should be dealt with when the time came, and not by altering its existing commitment to cooperation with PH at the Federal level.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress, stressed that the party would continue to cooperate with BN and UMNO at the Federal level to ensure political stability and the people’s welfare.
