GEORGE TOWN, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Penang Hill funicular service will be temporarily closed for seven days from Jan 4 to 10, 2027 for scheduled annual maintenance.
Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), in a statement today, said two major scheduled maintenance sessions are carried out each year under the supervision of engineers from funicular manufacturer Garaventa AG of Switzerland to ensure the system remains in good working condition and complies with stringent safety requirements.
“The first bi-annual scheduled maintenance in 2027 will include repairs to the track structure at the Lower Station, as well as the air-conditioning system and funicular roof.
“PHC also conducts daily, weekly and monthly inspections and maintenance of the funicular system, with routine checks conducted after operating hours,” the statement said.
The corporation said visitors wishing to reach the summit of Penang Hill during the closure can take the jeep service operated by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Association, located next to the Penang Botanical Gardens Department, or use the hiking trail.
