CHIBA (Japan), Aug 16 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Reports of flood damage continue to grow three days after torrential rain pounded Chiba Prefecture east of Tokyo, with the prefectural government saying Sunday that some 1,300 homes were flooded, 10 people were killed and one remained missing, Kyodo News reported.
Reports of flooded houses due to the record rainfall from Thursday evening to Friday morning increased from the around 1,000 announced by the local government the previous day.
Local authorities have continued efforts to grasp the extent of the damage, and they say there may be more homes affected by the disaster.
Some of the streets in the prefecture are still strewn with abandoned cars as there is a long waiting list for towing services.
According to local authorities, over 1,200 vehicles were abandoned on the streets at one point.
