KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Efforts to explain the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be extended nationwide to help the public gain a comprehensive understanding of how the institution’s deposits were managed.
Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the initiative would see Islamic scholars and religious figures explaining the RCI TH findings through mosques, surau, schools, government departments, colleges, universities and community education platforms.
He said the initiative followed a special conference, Hifz al-Mal, which brought together more than 100 scholars and religious leaders from across the country today to discuss the findings and the responsibility of safeguarding the savings of 9.7 million depositors.
“The objective is clear: the facts must be explained, the trust must be upheld, and the misuse of the people’s assets must not be allowed to happen again. Tabung Haji is a trust held on behalf of the Muslim community. Protecting it is our shared responsibility,” he said in a Facebook post.
Mujahid, who is also Amanah deputy president, said the Malaysian Ulama Secretariat organised the conference at De Palma Hotel in Ampang in collaboration with Malaysian Ulama Council Mursyid al-’Am (Spiritual Leader) Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman.
“What makes the conference particularly significant is that it brought together religious figures alongside professionals and scholars from various fields, including chartered accountants, economic commentators, legal practitioners, religious educators and pondok scholars.
“This combination of expertise allows a more comprehensive discussion of the RCI findings on Tabung Haji, covering religious, financial, economic, accounting, legal and governance aspects, as well as the responsibility of safeguarding the community’s assets,” he said.
Among the main sessions was an examination of the RCI findings from a professional perspective, as well as the roles of religious figures and the community in understanding and safeguarding the trust placed in them.
Mujahid said the conference was founded on the principle of Hifz al-Mal, or the protection of wealth, particularly given TH’s role in managing the savings of millions of Muslims to fund their haj pilgrimage.
