SIBU, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The widow of Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, who died in an electric shock incident in Sabah on Aug 6, will receive aid under the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS), said Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
The Pelawan assemblyman said he would assist Tang Wei Wei, 39, in securing an affordable home, in addition to providing rental assistance under the scheme.
“We will find a suitable and affordable house for Tang and her children,” he said when met by reporters after visiting the family in Ulu Sungai Merah here today.
Tiang said the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Tiong Hin Management Board had agreed to cover Tang’s children’s education expenses, including tuition fees, until they complete primary school.
Meanwhile, he said the government would bear the pre-school education expenses, including textbooks, for Tang’s youngest child, who is four years old.
Tiang said he would continue to assist the family, particularly with several legal matters that remain unresolved.
Chiu, 40, was among three policemen believed to have been electrocuted while moving a metal pole used to harvest coconuts outside the Weston Police Station in Beaufort.
He is survived by his widow and five daughters, aged between four and 11.
