MELAKA, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar wants reform to be fought for continuously, both within the party and in the government's administration and policies.
She said the party's struggle, which was born from the wave of reform, should not stop after becoming the government, but rather must continue to be a legacy for future generations.
"That is why we cannot stop fighting just because we are in government, instead party members must continue to carry out reform continuously," she said.
She said this when delivering her closing speech on the second day of the PKR 2026 National Congress at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here today.
For example, Nurul Izzah, known as the 'Princess of Reform', said the repeal of the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971, which PKR had previously fought for, could be realised when the party had power in the government.
She said the strong economic growth under the MADANI Government also needs to be translated into benefits that are truly felt by the people.
Nurul Izzah said this included increased job opportunities, space for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as greater opportunities for women and young people to participate in the mainstream economy.
"Therefore, structural reforms need to continue to ensure that the salary structure is fairer and wage rates increase in line with productivity," she said.
Meanwhile, she reminded the PKR leadership not to see power as personal property but rather a trust that needs to be preserved.
"Positions change, titles fade, names will be silent rather than mentioned, but what remains is the work we leave behind and the values we uphold, and that is what will live on after us," she said.
