WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Tesla, the US company owned by Elon Musk, could reach a valuation of around US$8 trillion following the launch of its Optimus robots, Elon Musk’s father, South African businessman Errol Musk, told RIA Novosti.
Tesla’s current market capitalisation is estimated at approximately US$1.23 trillion.
"Tesla will also be worth about 8 trillion, especially when Tesla's Optimus robots come out," Musk said.
The South African businessman emphasised that Tesla’s automotive production is currently taking a back seat, with Optimus robots and other developments becoming the company’s priorities.
Elon Musk previously said that Tesla would begin selling its humanoid Optimus robots by the end of 2027. The robots are expected to perform complex tasks and be used beyond industrial environments.
Optimus is a general-purpose humanoid robot designed to perform unsafe, repetitive and monotonous tasks. Tesla first unveiled a prototype of the robot in 2022.
