MELAKA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The PKR National Congress 2026, which brings together thousands of party delegates and leaders from across the country, gets underway here today with party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to deliver his policy speech outlining the party’s strategic agenda and direction.

Held under the theme “Memugar Reformasi, Membina MADANI” (Revitalising Reformasi, Building MADANI), the two-day congress is expected to provide a platform for the party to strengthen its direction while reaffirming the reformasi principles that underpin PKR’s struggle amid the evolving political landscape.

Anwar, who is the Prime Minister, is scheduled to officiate the congress.

The congress began yesterday with the conferences of the party’s two main wings, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Wanita PKR, which were officiated by deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

About 2,500 delegates and at least 3,000 observers from across the country are expected to attend the congress.

The presence of diplomatic representatives from several major world powers, including the United States, China, Japan and Australia, as well as leaders of local political parties, adds further significance to the congress.

The debate sessions will focus on key issues affecting the people, particularly the economy, education and political stability, with 16 speakers representing the states and party wings

Besides serving as a platform to strengthen unity within the leadership, the congress also aims to renew PKR’s commitment to upholding integrity, advancing social justice and continuing to champion the interests of vulnerable groups.

The Bill Kayong Award, meanwhile, will be presented to five families in recognition of the sacrifices of members who served the party with dedication until the end of their lives.

The congress also features participation by several ministries and agencies, including the National Registration Department (JPN), Immigration Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Registrar of Societies (ROS), which will be providing information and services to delegates and visitors.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s ‘Karnival Rahmah Mega’ is also being held in conjunction with the congress and is open to the public.

Anwar is scheduled to deliver his winding-up speech tomorrow before adjourning the congress.
