KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- The 2026 DAP Party Conference on Sunday will decide whether the party will remain in or withdraw from the Federal Government for the remainder of the current parliamentary term.
DAP National Organising Secretary Khoo Poay Tiong said the motion on the matter would be tabled by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke at the conference held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
He said a total of 4,264 delegates from 1,704 eligible branches would decide on the motion through a ballot.
“Delegates will debate the motion before voting takes place. We will leave it to all delegates present to make the decision.
“We will not use a voice vote or a show of hands. Instead, each delegate will be given a ballot paper to make their decision. It is a transparent process,” he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters here today.
Khoo said voting would begin once the debate had concluded and was expected to take about two hours.
He urged all eligible delegates to attend the conference, stressing that the decision on the motion was important as it would determine DAP’s future direction.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the Aug 16 gathering was the party’s annual party conference and not an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) or special conference as previously described.
He said under the DAP constitution, the party conference must be held no later than 18 months after a party National Congress, with the last congress held in March 2025.
Khoo said this year’s conference was also significant as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of DAP’s establishment.
He said PICC was selected after the party surveyed about eight venues, with capacity and cost among the main considerations as the conference needed to accommodate more than 4,000 delegates.
