KOTA KINABALU, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Two development projects involving the upgrading and replacement of broadcasting equipment and the air-conditioning (chiller) system at the Communications Ministry Integrated Complex here are being implemented to improve operational capabilities and staff comfort.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the first project involved replacing broadcasting equipment with new equipment capable of supporting digital and 4K high-definition broadcasts, as well as providing supporting equipment such as lighting and backdrops to improve the quality of broadcast content production.
"Progress on the studio equipment replacement currently stands at about 10 per cent and is expected to be completed in 2028,” he told reporters after visiting the complex here today.
The second project involves replacing four chiller units, or large-capacity air-conditioning systems, to ensure a more comfortable and safe working environment, while also taking into consideration the health and well-being of staff at the complex.
Fahmi said the tender process for the chiller replacement project would begin at the end of this month, with the equipment expected to arrive in the middle of next year before installation work begins, which is expected to take 24 months to complete.
"I have also asked that the work be carried out according to the stipulated schedule and within the approved cost. We do not want a situation where the project is delayed, or costs escalate significantly,” he said.
He said to ensure the projects proceed smoothly, the implementation of both projects would be monitored to make sure the work was completed according to the stipulated schedule and cost without disrupting the operations of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) or the departments and agencies operating at the complex.
He added that the monitoring of the project would also involve the state RTM director and officers to ensure that all work is carried out according to plan and to prevent any delays or cost increases.
Earlier, Fahmi was briefed on the replacement of studio broadcasting equipment by VME Broadcast Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Azhar Ab Rahman, and on the upgrading of the air-conditioning system by Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) senior assistant director Band Sabin and Sabah JKR mechanical engineer Ranel Pierre J Muyau.
