SYDNEY, Aug 9 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- A crew member was injured in a near-collision between a Jetstar Airways flight and a Qatar Airways plane on a runway at Sydney Airport on Sunday morning, Xinhua reported.
Jetstar flight JQ402 to the Gold Coast was taxiing on the runway prior to taking off around 7 am Australian Eastern Standard Time on Sunday when the pilot was forced to brake suddenly to avoid colliding with an empty Qatar Airways Boeing 777 that was being towed.
A Jetstar cabin crew worker was injured in the incident and treated by ambulance paramedics. No passengers were injured.
A spokesperson for Jetstar, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas, said that the airline has commenced an investigation into the incident.
"Our aircraft was following instructions by Air Traffic Control when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity," they said.
The incident occurred after more than 250 flights out of Sydney were delayed on Friday and Saturday due to staff shortages at Airservices Australia, which provides air traffic control services at Australia's major airports including Sydney.
