JAKARTA, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- A fire raged through six floors of the Jakarta Provincial Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building in Central Jakarta overnight, with one worker rescued as firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.
Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service chief Bayu Meghantara said the fire, which broke out on Friday night, swept through the 11th to 16th floors of the building, with firefighting operations beginning at 9.41pm local time and effforts were still underway to cool the affected areas early Saturday.
He said strong winds posed a challenge to firefighting operations, causing the flames to flare up again at times, while authorities had yet to determine where the fire originated.
“We managed to evacuate one worker who was carrying out renovation work on the 15th floor,” he said, according to Antara news agency.
The victim was rescued at about 1.30 am, while no further casualties had been reported, he added.
A total of 185 personnel and 20 fire engines were deployed to battle the blaze, including three Bronto Skylift units, specialised fire engines equipped with hydraulic aerial platforms for high-rise firefighting operations.
